The following three videos record the talks and discussions that took place on the online retreat ‘Living in Uncertain Times’, and were recorded on Zoom on 23rd and 24th Jan 2021. Each consists of a talk by Robert M. Ellis on aspects of Middle Way practice in response to periods of time we find stressful, to try to stop ourselves being hijacked by misleadingly easy shortcut options at such times. If we take those options we self-defeatingly prevent ourselves from adapting effectively to challenging new conditions, which require wider thinking, not narrower. The first talk gives the general context of why we tend to respond in this way and how we can avoid it, whilst the second and third are on the arts and critical thinking respectively as aspects of practice. Each talk is followed by discussions with the audience.
