This book is a critique of Buddhism from the standpoint of its own standard of the Middle Way, written by a former Buddhist with 20 years’ experience. It aims to point out the inconsistencies between metaphysical commitments in Buddhism and the ways it offers universal support for practical progress. It surveys key Buddhist teachings and practices and aims to separate the useful from the obstructive using practical criteria rather than those of traditional authority. This critical survey includes the Four Noble Truths, karma and rebirth, conditionality, beliefs about the Buddha, ethics and meditation.
